Simple Pleasures

Whilst walking the dog this morning I could not help but wonder at the glory of the early autumnal scene around me. The trees are changing and letting go of what they no longer need in preparation for Winter. They have much to teach us!

The changing season from summer to autumn brings with it the slight risk of being blinded by a fast falling acorn, but mostly it brings me deep gratitude.

Gratitude for the visual feast of rich autumnal colours.

Gratitude for the big old trees which teach us how to let go and bring such magnificence to our landscape.

Gratitude for the fruit trees flaunting their abundance, branches bent under the weight of apples and pears, eager to let go of all they no longer need.

Gratitude for my physical body that allows me to walk at good pace each morning and in good health.

Gratitude for the sun that lifts my spirits, warms my heart and injects such technicolour beauty to the natural world.

At the end of each day, our family tradition is always to ask our kids before they go to sleep what their favourite part of the day is. Focusing on the good stuff is always a balm to the soul. Likewise, letting go of all that doesn't serve us is the path into a good night's sleep and a peaceful state of mind.

A good Bach flower remedy for letting go of the past is Honeysuckle.

"The remedy helps us to learn from and recall the past without needing to relive it, so that we can progress into the present and take joy from today and tomorrow".
